  The patisseries of Thessaloniki are stunning ... stupendous... but this one is a must if you wish to 'taste'the history of the city, the 19th/early 20th C ethnic mix of Macedonia and the trade routes and hinterland of Salonica, second city to Ottoman Constantinople ...this, a bakery/patisserie founded in Constantinople dating back to 1908, the last year's of the Ottoman Empire. Population exchange brought thousands of Turkish speaking Christians as refugees into Salonica along with their traditional recipes for such sweet treats. Facinating... and one can eat it.

  Amazing things to try here. Personal favorites: Kazan Dipi, Taouk Gioksou, Touloumba with Kaimaki.
